Our Doctors:

Dr Raj Bhamra

Dr Raj Bhamra MBBS (London 1975) MRCS, LRCP, MRCGP

I was born in Nairobi, did my schooling in Hertfordshire and qualified in medicine from London University (Middlesex Hospital).  After post-graduate training locally in Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Watford, I joined Fernville Surgery in 1977.  My clinical interests include all aspects of General Practice, with special interests in Minor Surgery and Thoracic Medicine.  I have been a Clinical Assistant in Thoracic Medicine since 1977 and I hold a weekly clinic at Hemel Hempstead Hospital.

I am married with 2 children.  My wife is Spanish so we enjoy a multicultural way of living. I enjoy travelling and sports, and love music.  I am proud to be part of the team at Fernville, developing services to a high standard to provide the best, effective medical care and attention to every patient.

Dr Keith Hodge

Dr Keith Hodge MA MBBS (London 1981) DCH DRCOG MRCGP

After attending Medical Schools in Cambridge and King's College Hospital, London, I undertook my GP vocational training in Blackheath and Thamesmead, South London.  I have been a partner at Fernville Surgery since 1986.  Within the Practice, my interests include child health and articular injections. Additionally I represent Dacorum GPs on the Hertfordshire Local Medical Committee and work as Clinical Lead for Harmoni CPO West Herts, our local out of hours provider.

I am a Liverpudlian by birth and a lifelong Red; so Toffees beware!

Dr Raj Mapara

Dr Raj Mapara MBBS (London 1983) DCH DRCOG MRCGP

I was born in Uganda, East Africa and arrived in the UK as a child, following of the expulsion of Asians from Uganda by the dictator Idi Amin.  I attended Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London and graduated with distinction in 1983.  Subsequently, I trained at Ealing Hospital in West London and, on completion of my training, became a partner at Fernville Surgery in 1987.  I have been a GP trainer since 1998 and have trained twelve GP Registrars.  Some of these doctors have settled in the area, including one who is still working with me and is now also a Partner at Fernville.

My hobbies include sport, mainly cricket and badminton, and I enjoy looking after my children.

Dr Ann Shipley-Rowe

Dr Ann Shipley Rowe MBChB (Manchester 1984) [Female]

I was born and raised in Rochdale, Lancashire, which is responsible for my straighforward approach and my sense of humour!  I graduated from Manchester University Medical School in 1984, and moved south to do my first hospital jobs in Hemel Hempstead and St Albans.  Between 1985 and 1988, I undertook my hospital and practice based GP training in Buckinghamshire, eventually becoming a full time partner at Fernville in 1988.  I enjoy the variety of General Practice, but as a female practitioner I have inevitably acquired a lot of experience in women's health, sexual health, contraception, and children's health.

Over the years, I have been very involved in the management of the practice and in the wider health service at a local level.  I now work part-time to ensure I can fulfill my other role as a Mum.  My hobbies are mainly centred on my family and fitness and these include walking, cycling, swimming.

Dr Ardian Richardson

Dr Adrian Richardson MBBS (Edinburgh 1992) MRCP MRCGP BMedSc

Having graduated from Edinburgh University in 1992, I went on to study medicine for three years in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians.  I then trained in General Practice in London. I joined Fernville Surgery in 1996 as a GP Registrar.  I left the surgery for a period to study General Practice and Emergency Medicine in Western Australia, before returning in 1999 as a Partner.  My special clinical interests include diabetic medicine and the training of less experienced doctors and other clinical staff.

Outside work I enjoy cycling, sport, and many other outdoor activities.

Dr Janet Wright

Dr Janet Wright MBBS (London 1980) MRCGP DRCOG [Female]

My undergraduate medical training was at Kings College in London.  GP training followed in Stoke on Trent, Swindon, Cirencester and Poole.  Then came 6 months work as a medical volunteer on a development programme in South East India, following which I worked for nearly a year at St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney.  I became a partner in a practice in Cirencester in 1997 but my heart was in Hemel Hempstead and so moved here in 1998, becoming a partner at Fernville in 1999.

The rest, as they say, is history.  A high spot was getting married in 1996, but the low spot was developing a chronic illness in 2001 and having to learn to be a patient for a while!  Thankfully, by careful management of all my activities, this no longer restricts me significantly at work.  My special interests are general gynaecology, family planning, and health care IT and informatics.  I am now Vice Chair of the National User Group for EMIS, our medical care computing system.  In my spare time I enjoy gentle aquarobics, canal holidays and flat walks. I am an active member of my local church and a 'Rotary wife'.  But best of all I am now a proud step grandmother!
